Christmas Appeal continues

Dear <<First Name>>

Every year, Francesca and I visit Tanzania to see all our Malaika kids and the staff who work so hard to support them. We always spend several days in Dar es Salaam at the Reception Home, where we chat to every child, focusing particularly on the young adults undertaking apprenticeships or studying at college.
This year has been our best yet in terms of educational outcomes and job opportunities. In a country with an unofficial youth unemployment rate of 50%, it sometimes takes several months between graduation and a job offer, but with perseverance the offers do eventually arrive. Once our graduates are in full-time work, we continue to pay their rent for another six months and invite them to an evening meal at the Reception Home every night.

One boy has completed his three-year pharmacy course and passed all his college exams, graduating with a diploma. In March, he must take the Pharmacy Council exams in order to obtain his licence to practise. Meanwhile, he is volunteering at a polyclinic to gain practical experience.
Two young adults recently graduated in accountancy and freight forwarding respectively, and are searching for work in their chosen fields.

A girl has received her bachelor’s degree in social work and is volunteering as an intern counsellor while applying for paid jobs.
Some of our less academic children are also making progress. After six months work experience at a restaurant, a girl has now been offered a permanent job. Three boys are doing well - and getting paid! - at a landscaping and pest control company.

These success stories were only made possible by the generous support of past donors. Thank you all who have already contributed to our Christmas Appeal, offering more of our children the chance to fulfil their potential. Until 25 December all your donations will be doubled, and remember, you don’t need to ‘tip’ JustGiving - here's how
