Children in the Village

Financial Support

Your generosity is the lifeblood that enables us to plan ahead in Tanzania. Because we have no staff and no significant overheads in the UK, more than 95% of all the money we raise is spent directly on the children in Tanzania.

Every donation is welcome, whether it’s a one-off or a regular donation. Regular donations, however small, help even more to ensure ongoing care for our children.

One-off or regular donations

You can give a one-off donation or set up a regular donation via CAF Bank. If you are a UK taxpayer, they will take care of the GiftAid.

Alternatively, if you have an online bank account you can donate using these details:

Bank Name: CAF Bank
Account Name: Malaika Kids UK
Account Number: 00016798
Bank Sort Code: 40-52-40

If you are a UK taxpayer, please let us know if you qualify for GiftAid.

Cheque

Please send your cheque, made payable to Malaika Kids UK, to:

Malaika Kids UK
6 Lauderdale Mansions
London W9 1NE

If you are a UK taxpayer, please complete this Gift Aid declaration form.

Leave a Legacy

Your will is one of the most important documents you’ll write.

It’s a chance for you to help and provide for your loved ones, and to keep making a difference after you’re gone.

The kind of gifts you can leave to Malaika Kids:

  • A share of your estate (Residuary Legacy): Once you’ve worked out what you’re leaving to family and friends, you can donate a share, or all of what’s left.
  • A specific sum of money (Pecuniary Legacy): If you want to leave a lump sum to us, you specify this amount in your will.
  • A specific item: Jewellery, a first edition book, or any item that you think will be of some value to our work when sold.

Please let us know if you decide to leave us a legacy.

Already have a will

If you already have a will and want to leave a legacy gift to Malaika Kids, all you have to do is make a codicil (Latin ‘amendment’).  Speak to your solicitor about making a codicil to your existing will, and they’ll take it from there.

Charity Tax Advantage

Assume a net estate (after any relevant thresholds) is valued at £1m.
If you leave zero to Malaika Kids (or any other charity), the inheritance tax will be £400,000, leaving £600,000 for the rest of the estate.

If you leave £100,000 (10%) to Malaika Kids, then the inheritance tax rate on the remaining £900,000 drops from 40% to 36%. The amount of tax paid would reduce from £400,000 to £324,000 and the amount left to the family would become £576,000.

In other words, a gift of £100,000 to Malaika Kids would cost the rest of the estate only £24,000.

A fuller explanation can be found on the HMRC site. We strongly advise people to take their own legal/financial advice to establish whether that would work for them in their personal circumstances.
