| Over the course of the year, we have been asked by Social Services to act as a temporary guardian for several vulnerable children - 13 in the past twelve months - some of whom stay with us and some of whom return to their extended families. Currently, we are caring for a six-month-old child who has been abandoned, not for the first time, by her impoverished and unwell mother. Social Services are working on her case and in the meantime, she is receiving an enormous amount of care and attention from our resident mamas and the older girls. She will either move back home, probably to stay with a responsible relative, or if that is not possible she will move to our Children’s Village for long-term care and education. |
